BUTTERMILK  BISCUITS

 

2 cups flour (can sub. whole wheat flour)

5 tbs butter or margarine                                                                                                                                              

1 cup buttermilk

3 tsp baking powder

¼ tsp baking soda

½ tsp salt

 

Sift dry ingredients. 

Cut in butter or margarine with a pastry blender until course texture.

Add buttermilk all at once and turn gently with fork until moist.

(Do not handle much)

Roll on floured board to desired thickness.

Cut with a 2” diameter cutter.

Brush tops with oil.

 

Preheat oven to 4500 F.

Bake 12 - 15 min.

 

(If buttermilk is not available, use 4 tbs shortening, ¾ cup milk, and no baking soda.)
